Great Durham Parks

Looking to get outside? Durham hosts over 65 parks! Whether you’re looking to run, hike, kayak or just soak up some sun, the Bull City has you covered. Here are some of our favorites.

Durham Central Park

Okay, okay…we’re a little biased here, given that Durham Central Park is literally in the Vega’s backyard. But even if we weren’t neighbors, we’d still recommend you check out what is arguably the beating heart of the Bull City.

Sitting on five acres in the middle of downtown, Durham Central Park hosts numerous regular events. The Farmers Market sets up in the Pavilion, a large covered event space, and you can attend public yoga classes in the shadow of the Durham skyline. Some of our other favorite features include the Pixel Wall – an interactive art installation that’s a subtle nod to Durham’s tech industry – and the Garden of Eatin’, a public garden that anyone can pick from.

Old North Durham Park

Old North Durham is one of the city’s coolest neighborhoods. Home to a number of city institutions like Fullsteam Brewery, King’s Sandwich Shop, and Motorco Music Hall – arguably one of the best venues in North Carolina – it encapsulates the blend of old and new that defines the Durham aesthetic.

Old North Durham Park is dearly beloved by the locals because of its soccer field, the only full-size soccer field in downtown. Though debate raged in the past over transforming the space, it looks like it’s here to stay for a while. Kids love the cool inverted pyramid-style jungle gym, too.

West Point on the Eno Park

Speaking of old and new, drive about six miles North of downtown and you can experience something much older than downtown – almost 300 years old, in fact. West Point on the Eno features a fully functional, restored grist mill from 1778 with fresh cornmeal for sale. The local history also extends to the historic McCown-Mangum house and an exhibit of 20th century photography and the vintage equipment used to capture it.

If history isn’t your thing, you can take a hike along five miles of trails along the beautiful Eno River, one of the Triangle’s most treasured places. Fishing is allowed, too!
