What brought you to Durham?

Larry and I moved to Durham 13 years ago to take faculty positions at Duke University. Larry is a law professor and I am a global health professor — well, at least I was: I am retiring in June. Before that we spent 20 years living in seven different cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville, but we had never found what seemed like the right fit. We have had several opportunities to leave Durham and each time have decided to stay here. Durham is now definitely home.

What are you looking forward to the most regarding your new Vega home?

Five things: living in a beautiful contemporary space designed for aging in place; The Vega community members, many of whom we have already met; being located in the heart of Downtown Durham with the Farmers' Market and Central Park right at our doorstep and great restaurants just a short walk away; being able to travel, which we do extensively, without worrying about a house; and, last but not least, never having to clean gutters, blow leaves, or mulch flower beds ever again!

What did The Vega offer that made a difference in your buying decision?

We have talked about this a lot. It was the combination of clean, contemporary design, location, and the human scale of the building: not too large and not too small. We're excited to become part of the new Vega community.
