Work is moving forward on a luxury condo project in downtown Durham as developers look to complete construction by late 2021.

New York-based Lambert Development has begun taking reservations for units in The Vega, a proposed condo community on Hunt Street and overlooking Durham Central Park. Plans for the project call for 57 units across seven stories with commercial space on the ground floor. Units are set to start in the mid $400,000s.

Units at The Vega will feature 9-foot-plus ceilings and detailed interiors ranging from around 900 to 2,300 square feet. Amenities will include private balconies, detailed interiors, a resident club room and outdoor terrace. Lambert expects construction to begin this year and wrap up by the fall of 2021.

The City of Durham approved site plans for the project and has granted a variance allowing the building to occupy more than 20 percent of the street frontage and be located within 20 feet of a building corner. The developers originally expected to have to remove many of the trees on the site to upgrade overhead lines on Hunt Street, but further study found the tree removal wasn't necessary.

Durham-based MHAworks serves as the designer on the project with construction by Resolute Building Company of Chapel Hill.

Sales director Molly Barnes, with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices – York Simpson Underwood Realty, is representing Lambert Development at The Vega. Barnes also worked with Lambert on The Brannan condominiums in Durham, which was completed in late 2017.

The Vega is Lambert Development’s latest foray into multifamily development in the Triangle.
