Meet Your Neighbor! Q&A with Future Home Owner & Bestselling Novelist KJ Dell’Antonia

We’re delighted to introduce bestselling novelist KJ Dell’Antonia and her husband, Rob Seelig, in this month’s Meet Your Neighbor! A former New York Times’ journalist (including her Motherlode blog), KJ is the author of How to be a Happier Parent, the Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick The Chicken Sisters, and hot off the press In Her Boots. While co-host of the #AmWritingPodcast, KJ is working on her third novel. Read on to learn about why KJ and Rob selected The Vega for their Durham home:

What’s bringing you to Durham? My husband attended Duke, so we've visited a few times a year for years. We love the new downtown, the restaurants, and the market, so we look forward to spending a lot more time there. We also have two kids at Duke.

What are you looking forward to the most regarding your new Vega home? We currently live in a small New Hampshire town, so the warmer weather and the walkable downtown are going to be fantastic.

What did The Vega offer that made a difference in your buying decision? We love the relatively small size of the building and the location, as well as the style.

How did it feel when The Chicken Sisters landed in the Reese Witherspoon Book Club? Being chosen by Reese is every author's dream. Well, most of us. Maybe not Jonathan Franzen. But since Reese elevates women and women's stories, he's not exactly on her list. Digression! It was among the best career phone calls I have ever received or expect to, and it brought the book to a far larger audience than I imagined. It was and is wonderful.

Give us a synopsis of In Her Boots. I like to say In Her Boots is about the adult we know we are, the kid our mothers will always see and our terrible fear that our moms are right—but it’s ALSO about an accidental literary hoax, a family farm and bffs who will do anything to help each other show the world who they really are.

Can you share any tidbits about your next book in the works? My next book will be Playing the Witch Card, out fall 2023. It's a grown-up Gilmore Girls meets Practical Magic, and features a stolen deck of Tarot cards that have powers and a mission of their own.

How are your books purchased? I'd strongly suggest you head to your local indie bookstore (I love both Letters downtown and Golden Fig, out by Guglhupf) or Barnes and Noble to grab a copy, but you can also order from Bookshop or Amazon.

We’re looking forward to welcoming KJ and Rob to their new home! If you or someone you know would like to be a future home owner, please contact us. At over 90% sold, we have exceptional floor plans still available! Call (919) 973-1516 to learn more.
